Nearly one in seven Afghan women needlessly dies in childbirth. Join IMOW and our partners from Women and Girls Lead for a free online social screening of Motherland Afghanistan Wednesday, June 13, 2012 from 1-2pm PT / 4-5 pm ET to learn why Afghanistan is one of the most dangerous places in the world to become pregnant.
The independent film Motherland Afghanistan introduces the women behind these devastating statistics. Afghan American filmmaker Sedika Mojadidi follows her father's work as an OB/GYN as he struggles to make a difference, first at Kabul's Laura Bush Maternity Ward and then in an isolated provincial hospital, where patients often travel for days to get treatment.
Watch and chat live with special guest panelists: Manizha Naderi (Executive Director, Women for Afghan Women) and Laurette Cucuzza (Reproductive Health Specialist, CEDPA). We'll discuss what is being done to decrease maternal mortality in Afghanistan and what you can do to support the efforts.
